Akin was bored out of his mind. He had been in the hospital for a week now. The doctors had refused to let him go home. They said they were running some tests, and they should be getting the test results today. Bimbo had been discharged yesterday, and he couldn't wait to get back to her. The accident had been really hard on her, and the lady who had hit them...
He hadn't really gotten round to speaking with her yet. All he knew was that she was brought in with them. He also overheard that she got it real bad. Not that she didn't deserve it. His life had been pretty perfect when she ruined it.
She was in the room next door, and he heard that she was unconscious. He decided to just take a peep, at least just to see what the woman who had almost killed him looked like. Gently, he opened the door and peered into her room.
what the heck, he couldn't see her clearly. He could just come in and stand by her bed, not that she'd notice, at least she was unconscious...
He stepped into the room, and trying his best not to make any sounds, carefully tiptoed to the bed. She had her back to him, so he couldn't really see her face. Still tiptoeing, he moved to the other side of the bed.
She didn't look like a killer. She didn't look crazy either. She looked... confused? even troubled? and she looked beautiful, just as if she was just sleeping. He almost felt sorry for her. She just lay there, not moving.
Akin was beginning to feel just a lil bit too comfortable in the room. He had this overwhelming need to run his fingers through her hair. You know, just to let her know everything'll be alright.
Gosh! her hair felt soft, too soft for someone who's been unconscious for a week. She had thick, long and silky jet black hair.
Kunbi's eyes flicked open. It took a minute for her to recognize where she was. Her surroundings were pristine white, and the light was too bright. She immediately shut her eyes, but she had it open long enough to realize that this looked nothing like her room! She tried to move her legs, but they felt like they were made of lead. Then it hit her. She was in a hospital! how did she get there? she had no idea. Next, she tried her mouth, but her mouth was too dry to get anything audible out.
After like 2 minutes when Kunbi's eyes had gotten used to the light (which was not that bright by the way, aka, she was just tripping), Kunbi opened her eyes and was startled to see a stranger, albeit a very cute one, standing over her and running his hands through her hair.
'hnmnn" , Kunbi finally managed to grunt
Akin jumped back veeery startled. Damn! wasn't she supposed to be unconscious?!
"I'm sorry... I just came in to say hello.... had no idea...." Akin mumbled incoherently
"umn... I... its..... "Kunbi whispered, not really making any sense either. Her mouth was having a lil trouble catching up with her eyes.
"I guess I have to call the nurse or doctor or both!"
Akin dashed out of the room, and in a little while returned with a doctor and nurse in tow. He lasted all of 30 seconds in the room, before he was promptly removed.
After 2hours, Akin was given a clean bill of health, and was told he could leave. He couldn't resist asking about the lady. Everything had happened so fast, that he hadn't really caught her name. He decided he'd just wait a while, at least just to make sure she was ok. The nurse said he should be able to see her in an hour's time.
It seemed like forever, but then an hour passed. The door was opened, but he knocked still. Trying to go for a better second impression
"who's that? come in " A very faint voice whisphered from inside.
If Akin was not listening quite intently he wouldn't have heard it.
"Hi, I just came to check up on you before leaving"
"That's rather nice of you, but I don't know you"
"Oh, I forgot we haven't been formally introduced, I'm Akin, the one you took a swipe at his life"
If Kunbi was hurt, her face showed no expressison.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Kunbi replied, averting her eyes. The accident was still a blur in her mind, and up till a couple of mins ago, she wasn't even aware that there were other people involved in the accident.
"I'll forgive you on one premise"
"and what might that be?" Kunbi asked
"On the premise that you tell me what you were thinking about, that made you distracted"
Omigosh! up till now she had completely forgotten about the pregnancy test! she wasn't even sure whether she was pregnant or not. She might as well come clean and tell him . Afterall, she didn't know him, and she was dying to tell someone anyways.
Taking a deep breath, and Kunbi started talking. " I was on my way from church, and I stopped by to pick a pregnancy test. I was consumed with panic at the thought that I might be pregnant"
"Why would yo panic at the thought of being pregnant, that would be a good thing innit?"
"No, I don't want to be pregnant, and even if I was, I probably lost the pregnancy in the accident"
Akin was not understanding her, what woman wouldn't want to be a mother. Anyways, he chose not to pressure her with questions.
"I'm sorry that you feel this way, I have to leave though. Would it be alright with you if I stop by tomorrow evening?" Akin asked.
"I'd appreciate that"
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Akin left the hospital. bothered and intruiged. Shortly after he left, the Doctor (Doctor Bunmi, aka me!!!) walked into the room.
"Miss peters" she began, "As part of the routine tests we ran on you when you were brought in, we ran a pregnancy test. I must tell you that you were bleeding heavily as a result of the accident, but your baby survived the accident. Ms Peters, I'm happy to inform you that you are four weeks pregnant!
