Even though David tried to cover up his sins, God came to his house and exposed him! and what did David do when this scandal broke? He sought God for forgiveness. Do you think when David was praying over Bethsheba's child his servants didn't know that it was his?
In this day and age, some people would have even said Bethsheba seduced David. Afterall, why was she bathing where she knew David would see her, and even when he called her in, she could have refused to go far, so she was equally culpable. David did not rape her, and she was a consenting adult. The Bible does not disagree with that, instead Bethsheba became one of the great grandmothers of Christ!
My problem with Nigerians is how they refuse to believe that their pastors can do no wrong. Even if he sinned, it must be the girl that seduced him. Nowhere in the Bible did we see where God chastised Bethsheba (even though I'm sure He did). A greater emphasis was placed on David because he had great responsibility.
Also a lot of people are saying if he has truly asked for forgiveness from God, everything will be buried. David accepted his fault, prayed to God for forgiveness (psalm 51) but no matter how long he prayed and fasted for Bethsheba's child, the child still died.
It is sad that people want to focus on the reputation, his "gift" of preaching, the new church they are building, etc instead of focus on what is pertinent. I'm not saying I know for sure that the pastor is guilty (even though it is more likely). I'm just appalled at his reaction to the whole thing. Men of God are men and CAN be guilty.
