Aiye k'ooto

I have been typing this one post about sweeping off the cobwebs on my blog, but I can't seem to finish it because I seem to be distracted by life itself most times. However, things took a different turn yesterday when someone decided to call me out on her blog. The argument was that since it's her blog she can choose to write whatever she chooses to write and we shouldn't leave any comments contrary . We forget that this is the www and once you hit "publish" it becomes public property to be viewed, commented on, etc. (just ask Ann coulter).the fact that it is you don't solicit readers doesn't mean people won't find eir way to your blog. The fact that your blog is "therapy" doesn't change the process either. I've said countless times that I started my blog to help me cope through a stressful time. In my life (medical school) that being said, I don't expect positive rubber stamp comments all the time.

Not that the comment on said blog was negative itself, I just think people don't want to hear the truth (again). Whenever we perceive ourselves under attack we go with the "you don't know me/ my life!" Contrary to popular opinion, once you choose to chronicle your life on any social media (blog, Instagram, twitter) people DO end up knowing more about your life than you think. Which is why I try to be vague when I tweet/ post, though it hasn't stopped people from piecing certain things together.

Also if you have gone through a similar experience  that is pretty much standard across the board, you tend to know what you're saying. I still have people that call me for advice as they progress through med school, and I have people I call when I'm moving along as well because they've experienced it before, and I find that once you can talk to people, you have the option of not making the same mistakes they did. now I know our experiences might be different because of our personal circumstances. I had classmates who had spouses, got married, got pregnant, had kids in med school. They still had to go through the same things we did, in addition to juggling their personal issues. They still took all the exams, rotations, etc. so I'm not making sweeping generalizations/ passing comments.

I have not even begun to pass judgement because if I had posted the comment I wanted to post under her "mourning" post, I probably would have been burned at the stake considering the reaction to my seemingly harmless comment.

Ok, I wish I was half as angry as I would need to be to complete this post, so I'm just going to chill

PS: sorry for the anti climatic end :)

The Ofbono soup that wasnt

Ok, I'm so upset! Only something as serious as this can jolt me from my blogging hiatus. Anywhoos, let me start from the beginning.
I woke up this morning, boiled some meat, and roasted turkey. I was going to make me the ogbono/okra soup combo that was going to land me my ring! A couple of minutes later, my meat was boiling, the stock was bubbling. I tasted it and I just knew that this was no half carat diamond soup. This was a full carat right here! All the spices were speaking.

I had added the palm oil and as I was about to add the "ogbono", I sensed so ring was wrong. This looked like ogbono, felt like ogbono, but didnt exactly smell like Ogbono. As I hadn't made ogbono soup in the past couple of months, I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. I added the first spoonful - no thickening
Second spoonful - still no thickening

Mogbe!

It didnt look like ogbono, definitely didnt taste like ogbono, but it still smelt good. Then it dawned on me that I had added peppersoup spice to my soup!

Please don't ask me why I went ahead and added the okra, but what resulted was a hot mess! Peppersoup flavored okra.what pained me the most was my meat sha. Not to worry, I plan on carefully rinsing out the meat. My goat meat isn't going down like that!

PS: luckily, I had divided my meat into two, so I made an unwilling trip to the African store to buy the real deal and minutes later, I had my ogbono soup sitting pretty in the pot.

PPS: Le Boo ate and decided that he doesn't like the taste of ogbono afterall!  *sigh* I need to come up with a new strategy!

Strategically yours,

Re: Pastor Biodun's Reaction to Ese Walter's allegations

There is nothing new under the sun. Whatever Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has (not) done, someone else had done. Lets examine another great man of God - David. The Bible describes him as a man after God's heart. He saw a beautiful woman bathing, committed adultery and got her pregnant. He even had a brilliant Olivia Pope plan to cover it up. Have the husband of the woman sleep with her to cover up his plan. Brilliant!
Except it didn't work that way. Then he added murder to it.

Even though David tried to cover up his sins, God came to his house and exposed him! and what did David do when this scandal broke? He sought God for forgiveness. Do you think when David was praying over Bethsheba's child his servants didn't know that it was his?

In this day and age, some people would have even said Bethsheba seduced David. Afterall, why was she bathing where she knew David would see her, and even when he called her in, she could have refused to go far, so she was equally culpable. David did not rape her, and she was a consenting adult. The Bible does not disagree with that, instead Bethsheba became one of the great grandmothers of Christ!

My problem with Nigerians is how they refuse to believe that their pastors can do no wrong. Even if he sinned, it must be the girl that seduced him. Nowhere in the Bible did we see where God chastised Bethsheba (even though I'm sure He did). A greater emphasis was placed on David because he had great responsibility.

Also a lot of people are saying if he has truly asked for forgiveness from God, everything will be buried. David accepted his fault, prayed to God for forgiveness (psalm 51) but no matter how long he prayed and fasted for Bethsheba's child, the child still died.

It is sad that people want to focus on the reputation, his "gift" of preaching, the new church they are building, etc instead of focus on what is pertinent. I'm not saying I know for sure that the pastor is guilty (even though it is more likely). I'm just appalled at his reaction to the whole thing. Men of God are men and CAN be guilty.

Healthy Substitutes

I recently downloaded the "fitness pro" app so that I could keep track of my caloric intake for the day. You'd be surprised at where all the calories you consume are coming from. The good news is, there are so many healthy substitutes for these unhealthy/ high caloric foods.

I know myself, I don't do well with diets. Frankly, most peoole don't. what happens is you almost always end up craving all the things you stopped eating, then going on a binge. Instead, I decided to take a gradual approach to things.

Almond Milk for Regular Milk:
This has to be my biggest breakthrough yet. I saw this on biolstagram's Instagram page. Almond milk has 60 calories as opposed to 1% milk. If you go for unsweetened almond milk, that's even 30 calories! What this means for me is I can have / packs of oatmeal and still be under 300 calories, than having one pack of oatmeal with a cup of milk for the same.

almonds for Salted Peanuts
As part of the eating healthy thing, I decided to incorporate healthy snacks. I started with salted peanuts, pretty much because I've eaten peanuts all my life. Turns out the salt makes it a tad unhealthy, then someone introduced me to almonds, and an addict was born!
Almonds have more fat - but its the healthy kind (Mono Unsaturated Fatty Acids). I try not to over indulge.

juice for Sodas
I think soda was responsible for 80% of the weight I gained last year. There was a time I had a can of soda with almost every meal - even breakfast! I decided to cut back on soda and had V8 juices instead. Not totally healthy, but healthier than the crap I was putting in my body.

Lemon Water for Juice
Then I went on the Daniel fast for a month and couldn't have juices. Instead, I would put 3 drops of lemon into my cup of water, and all of a sudden it wasn't that bad to drink water.

Whole grain bread for White bread
Another healthy substitution you could do is whole grain bread for white bread.

Sexy Summer

I've always been skinny, with a tendency to gain weight. However, I'd never really felt like I gained any insane amount of weight. Oh, let me add here that I'm one of the laziest persons ever. So working out has never been my thing.
Imagine my surprise when I just woke up one morning and I had gained over 40 pounds!  Fine, ok it didnt happen overnight, but between cans of sodas, many McDonald's meals and KFC in a matter of months, I went from 120 pounds and was getting close to 170!

Yeah, people had been telling me I was putting weight, but coming from the very skinny extreme, I thought they were hating, but one day while at a store, I stepped on a scale and saw 167 Ibs, nobody told me before I bought the scale and went home.

Now I'm not a dieter or an exercise person, so I was worried! Plus, I love me my Naija foods. My church normally does this Daniel fast every January, so I decided to participate. The Daniel Fast is primarily a primal diet where you only eat Fruits, Nuts, Salads and Legumes. The only drink allowed is water. This was after I had already bought all my ingredients to cook fried rice!

Anyways, I completed the Daniel fast by surviving on fruits  for breakfast, Salads for lunch and Beans for dinner. At the end of the 3 weeks, I dropped almost 10 pounds (and one dress size). I have since decided to continue the same eating patterns with the addition of animal protein. So my diet nowadays is pretty much the same with the addition of chicken breasts, fish and Steak. Hopefully I can shed all this weight I packed on and be summer ready for bikini season!

Here's to a sexy summer!

Concert of Life!

Bride price as at 1/26/2013: $50,000
I know I've been procrastinating on writing my first post of the year, Infact I have two drafts sitting on ice. Thankfully, I will spare you guys the horror of reading about how my boobs have grown (with pictures) in favor of something more exciting that came up.
Every 2 years, Femi Kuti comes to Washington DC, and I was favored to go to the concert in 2009. The concert is not heavily publicized, but the real FEMI kuti fans know to expect it, as evidenced by hundreds of fans (mostly white) who pack the halls of club 9:30.  This year, I had marked my calendar and I wasn't going to miss it for the world.

We got a good, great standing spot right in front of the stage, and we were ready to rock the night away. Femi is such an awesome performer, a professional, so I won't waste my time trying to rate the concert. If you must know, it was an 11/10. You could tell that the set list was rehearsed and executed to perfection. Rather, I'm gonna tell you how Bumight morphed into the greatest alpha groupie of all time!

So the band is playing and ADERAYO yells, "yeah, he got cute band members", and so a mini-game of "spot the cute ones" ensued. Then someone pointed out the guy playing the guitar and I'm like yeah, he's cute.because we were standing right Infront of e stage, the piano was blocking all my shots at making eye contact.
Bride price : $50,000
Anyways, so we were grooving and tingz, and Femi left the stage, but the band kept playing for a few mins. SO Unsuspecting Victim came to the front to lead. Thank heavens! cos the placement of Femi's keyboard had been blocking my efforts. Then he recached out to touch the crowd. Fam, he touched my hand! *clutches pearls* like Omigosh! this is like totally fate speaking! Infact, I made sure not to touch anything else with that hand and promptly washed it into a bowl, poured the contents inside a vial which I'm going to wear round my neck for eternity
Brideprice: $5,000After the show was over, and we were plotting how to get backstage, (yeah, this groupie biz is NOT for the faint hearted!) *wipes sweat off my brow*, someone walked past us, it was the neck piece I noticed first! Blogville, see the way I flung myself on him, I made sure to take a pic (which I will NOT be posting on this blog!)

Brideprice:$500
Then later on, Rayo went upstairs to see if she could get pictures with Femi, and I just tagged along - and I saw him again. After my girls gave me the clear, I walked up to him and made conversation. In short, 2+2 = 22!
Brideprice: $50
I think I'm getting bolder...and it's all you guys' fault! Yes, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Fam, I think my bride price is looking like the stock market looked during the depression. O well, I had an amazing time!

PS: I still love you Femi!!!....but we love Ope moreeee!
PPS: sometimes I wish I wasn't so anonymous on this blog, I'd have posted pictures, but I did post pictures on Instagram and Facebook! (Can't pass up the chance to taunt those that couldn't make the show!)
PPS: I still love you Brymo, when you're done doing shakara, lets get to making these cute babies

PPPS: think you can twerk? watch Tonia/Onome tell you different! Im already taking notes sef, watch me in a few weeks! #AfricanTwerkTeam
