However, one thing that I have noticed about nurses from my one year on rotations is that nurses notoriously don’t get along with medical students. Its like the Spartans and the xxx,
On my very first rotation, there was this nurse in the ED, we asked her for the key to the bathroom, and she gave my colleague a bunch of keys and highlighted one. We tried the key several times until I suggested we try others and after a few tries, we came up on the real key. The nurse was in a corner giggling to herself.
The nastiest nurses I’ve come across have been
Yeah, the nicest nurses I’ve encountered are the nurses on the medicine floors. They make you feel like part of the team. Some of them even refer to us as “doctor bumight” (yeah, such things are good for our egos J ) They would tell you everything about your patients such that it makes you look good on rounds. There have been cases like this
Medical student: “ excuse me, are u the nurse for Ms Shokolokobangoshe?’
Nurse; “yeah’
MS; “do you know if there was anything that happened with her overnight?”
Nurse: “nothing happened”
Then MS goes on rounds and reports that “in the past 24 hours, there were no acute events” only for the attending physician who was at home overnight to interject that “Nurse X told me that Ms Shokologobangoshe had a fever overnight, then her blood pressure tanked, and she was given IV fluids, and then she coded, so they had to run a code on her for 15 minutes before she was resuscitated”.
And MS is left looking like a fool! Not cool.
PS: I’m not anti-nurses o! I suspect that a good chunk of my readers (and fellow bloggers) are nurses. My mom is a nurse!

it weird tho
OMG! Ob nurses, it must be a universal code. In fact at a point i started to wonder if i even had a right to be on the ward sef. We practically had to sleep on the ward to be able to take histories at all.
I respect nurses as their profession is truly noble and tasking, but really some of them need to let go of their issues, seek therapy if needed and not make us pay for the sins of the consultants.
These tales of nurses vs doctors have been around for donkey years now.
Lol @ “excuse me, are u the nurse for Ms Shokolokobangoshe?"
And that nurse who gave you guys the wrong keys...that's pure wickedness o. Lol.
Lol...my Mom is an RN and she's constantly complaining about how patients are neglected by the nurses she wrks with. No compassion or kindness whatsoever...it pains her.
She has made me promise not to put her in a nursing home, bcos dey dnt look after them well. She wants to go home and be well taken cre of.
lol i think they c it as their opportunity to repay every doc that every treated them badly now they have the chance to before we become docs lol or maybe wickness
I was accused once of not greeting a nurse and shouted at lol
the matron @ my hospital is another matter, maybe she hates nigerians, i dunno she is always like a red eyed salivating hound from hell never missing a chance to take a chunk of flesh from one's ass :)
lol, but you are speaking the truth! dats exactly what i said in one of my recent post...nurse can make life good for you or they can make it hell.
O&G nurses are alright but midwives....another story entirely.... i shall say no more otherwise i run the risk of gettin struck off from the GMC register

Hi, I was here,
I enjoyed reading..
I had fun..
*leaves, smiling*
come to naija & see how nurses behave towards patients...i almost slapped a nurse once for asking me pay for a card for my cousin who had just had a glass cut on his wrist...then lets not talk about the nurses in labour & delivery
*mpscheeew*
lol @ ruggedman and ....
Seems there is something with nurses and their lack of compassion. Think most of them are just in it for the money. The one down here are so terrible especially the ones at govt hospitals. The one at labour and delivery, me think are devil's incarnate
